Today the village is within the electoral ward of Harrold in the Borough of Bedford. Podington lies around ten miles north west of Bedford and is close to the county border with Northamptonshire. The parish is sometimes called "Podington" but usually "Podington and Hinwick" and this parish is within the historic Hundred of Willey. Podington is a small picturesque rural village, many of its buildings are stone cottages dated from the 1700s, and some even earlier. Nearby there is paintballing and a garden centre. Podington was included in the Domesday Book 1086; and has been recorded as "Podintone" and "Potintone" from the 1200s and later as "Puddington".British History Online - Older spellings - 1700s stone cottages

Located around two miles south east of the village are RAF Podington and Santa Pod Raceway.

Less than one mile to the south is the hamlet of Hinwick; the closest nearby villages between one and two miles away include, Farndish to the north west and Wymington to the north east. Nearby larger settlements include Rushden to the north Irchester to the north west and Wollaston to the west, all around three miles away.
